Drafting your Startup Designs

Advice

Before you start sketching, pay attention to what catches your eye. Snap pictures, build collages, put together a mood board – whatever you need to in order to narrow down examples of the kind of products that produce the kind of visceral response that you’d like your idea to engender. This step is 99% preparation, and as such can be frustrating for first time designers – you want to jump to the heart of the process, but what you really need is to sort out your own inspiration. Copy liberally if you need to. Rip other ideas off. And then iterate, iterate, iterate. Make it yours by taking away everything you don’t agree with, and polishing the pieces that make sense.
